Firuza Sharipova and Yuliya Kutsenko make weight!

Later today Kazakh female fighter Firuza Sharipova (8-1, 4) will defend the WIBA Lightweight title against unbeaten Russian Yuliya Kutsenko (7-0-1, 3), who will be stepping up in class.

Yesterday the two women took part in their weigh in for that bout and both came in under the 135lb for the contest.

The champion, who will be making her second defense of the belt, looked confident and strong at the weigh in and will be looking to score her 9th straight win, following a shock loss on her debut. She turned professional with high expectations on her shoulders, following a lot of amateur success, and will know that a win here could, potentially, lead to a show down in the future with Irish boxing golden girl Katie Taylor.

Kutsenko on the other hand has will be fighting in her first title bout, and despite her unbeaten record she has not been tested particularly hard. Instead she has been handled with relative kid gloves whilst often competing below the Lightweight division.

Fans who may be interested in watching this contest are to tune into Khabar TV in Kazakhstan, who will show the fight, live, a little later today, though we do suspect the contest will be a mismatch. In fact the only real advantage that Kutsenko potentially has is a home advantage, with the fight being held in Russia, though even that is only a small advantage given that Sharipova has regularly fought in Russia through her career.
